This time of year hockey is truly as dramatic as sports get. The battle for the playoffs can be even crazier. Losses Ike the Penguins losing at home to the worst NHL team, with a chance to clinch the playoffs, should be a lesson for all….The Buzztron can’t even account for the fact that this is a team sport and emotion can kill a team or lead them to unthinkable miracles….
It is the absolute beauty of this sport…
My worst memory of a hockey loss came in 1980…just a few short months after the Miracle on Ice had left me elated. The 1979-80 season in Philly was epic. The Flyers went on the still unbroken streak of 35 games without a loss. It was 5 years after the two Cups, but I was an infant….and don’t remember them much….but by 1980 I was 12. I knew what it all meant and I was ready for an unbelievable Cup run….
Until that all ended when the Isles took game 6 and the series in OT to lift what would be their first of four Cups.
As a twelve-year-old……I was completely devastated.
