Center depth from the bargain bin? (Penguins)

As we barrel in on the regular season's start we are going to start seeing some players that get cut from the NHL roster and need to pass through waivers. Sometimes there are interesting names among these players. A team like Pittsburgh in desperate need of center depth could potentially find some value from the waiver wire.

Today Peter Holland was cut from the Montreal Canadiens and needs to pass through waivers. Is this something the Penguins should consider? Is he an upgrade over a player like Carter Rowney? Let's take a look using the newly minted Corsica 2.0 which was released today. It looks great and it is tremendous to have this resource back. Big thanks to Emmanuel Perry.

These are clean and easy to read. I've labeled each chart with who it is. You can look up any NHL player and get this information now.

Based on the 2016-17 season it doesn't appear that Peter Holland is worth making a waiver claim on. Holland makes 675k compared to the 612k that Rowney makes. Additionally, Holland has another year left on his contract. It obviously isn't a big contract, but there is no point in putting in a claim if there is no obvious upgrade to what they already have.

Keep an eye on the waiver wire. Maybe something better will come about
