The Washington Capitals lost last night to the Florida Panthers, 3-2.
For the Caps, it wasn't a bad game - Luongo was pretty awesome. As has been the case a lot this season, the Capitals lose when they're good and win when they're bad. What can you do?
The Capitals have now lost three of four, but that's not even their biggest problem: the problem is that the Pittsburgh Penguins just added Derek Brassard to their lineup. The Penguins, already probably the best team in the NHL (they were very, very unlucky for the first three months of the season, but seem to have won about 15 games in a row recently) are now flat-out insane.
They already had one of the best groups of forwards, but now they definitely have the best 1-2-3 centre combo in the NHL. They have to now be massive favorites to win the Cup and pull off the three-peat.
For the Capitals, this is terrible news. They lost last night, now they've lost again.
The Capitals are 4-4-2 in their last ten, and before that, they lost five of eight and seem to be in a complete free fall.
So it's getting pretty dicey. The Capitals are in dire need of a winning streak or they may miss the Playoffs altogether.
