The Blue Jackets have re-signed restricted free agent Alexander Wennberg to a 6 year $29.4M deal.

17-18: $3.5M
18-19: $4.5M
19-20: $5.35M
20-21: $5.35M
21-22: $5.35M
22-23: $5.35Mhttps://t.co/SsWIDkk54Q
The deal averages out to $4.9M per season. This is a fantastic deal for the Blue Jackets and clearly waiting all summer to get this done paid off for the team. Wennberg had a breakout season offensively this past season putting up 59 points in 80 games. Wennberg is the top centre on this team, but still has some way to go to becoming a top end centre in the league.
Most comparable contracts to #Jackets Wennberg at 6yr x $4.9M:

Couturier (PHI) 6 x $4.33M

If Wennberg reaches his potential and is a consistent 60+ point scorer this deal is going to be an absolute steal. Centres are at a premium in the NHL today, look at what Ryan Johansen and Leon Draisaitl just signed for. Centres cost big bucks and the Jackets are very fortunate to get Wennberg on the deal they did.
With this deal the Jackets now have $7.98M in cap space and only have Josh Anderson to sign.

With Wennberg now inked I would expect Anderson’s deal to get done very soon.
