Best goaltending tandem in the NHL? (Predators)

Todd Cordell

I'll go with Nashville's duo of Pekka Rinne and Juuse Saros.

Rinne has posted a .918 save percentage or better in three of the last four seasons and he just won the Vezina Trophy.

Despite his small stature, Saros has seamlessly transitioned to the NHL and enjoyed great success thus far. Through 48 games he owns a .923 save percentage. At 5v5 he has a .930SV%, which is good for 11th among 53 goaltenders to play more than 2,000 minutes over the last couple seasons.

Honorable mention goes to Anaheim. I think John Gibson belongs in the conversation for top spot in the league and Ryan Miller is coming off a tremendous season as the backup.

James Tanner The best goaltending tandem in the NHL is Sergei Bobrovsky and his back up Korpisalo. A healthy Bobrovsky probably plays 65 or more games, so I don't think his back-up really matters. As the NHL's best goalie, I'm going to give Korpisalo the benefit of the doubt and say they're also the best tandem. Honorable mention, however, to Raanta and Darcey Kuemper, who I think himself is the NHL's best back-up. If Raanta has another year like he did last year, they could be the best combo. For now, it's Bobrovsky and whoever his back-up is on any given day.

Peter Tessier This ranking is tough because there is one thing worth considering- a minimum amount of games played by the backup. Given that issue, the Devils with Kinkaid and Schneider seem very good as well as the Predators with Rinne and Saros. Despite some hated towards him from Leafs fans the Reimer and Luongo tandem cannot be dismissed either as can Rask and Khudobin.

If I had to pick one tandem going into this season I think the Varlamov Grubauer pair presents a possible top pairing in the league if both play to the same level as last season.
