The Panthers erupted Friday night to ground the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 6-1 and, and in the process, added some more accolades to this historic season:
Make that nine straight wins overall and at home for the @FlaPanthers, who have now scored at least six goals in a home game for the 11th time this season – a franchise best.#NHLStats: https://t.co/zGHPeVXE7j pic.twitter.com/ZXy7nk5xDD

The Florida machine chugs into the Motor City today for a holiday afternoon game against the rebuilding Detroit Red Wings. The Wings’ 29-36-10 record is a far cry from the Detroit teams we are used to seeing, but theyare moving in the right direction under the magic of Steve Yzerman and have some talented young guns in the mix - namely defenseman Moritz Seider, who is incredibly talented and making a legit push for the Calder Trophy.
I’m personally a big fan of Tyler Bertuzzi and Givani Smith’s style of play. The cats should be aware when these guys are on the ice because they insert some real sandpaper into the Detroit lineup and can physically wear down the opposition.
Here’s the skinny on the Wings as of late per Winners and Whiners:
“Detroit was shut down by the Rangers to lose for the ninth time in their last 12 games Saturday afternoon in the front half of a back-to-back set. The Red Wings entered Saturday night fifth in the Atlantic Division, 44 points behind the Panthers for the division lead. They have been eliminated from playoff contention. Detroit is 22nd in the league in goals per game as they average 2.84 goals a night this season. The Red Wings are 31st in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 3.77 goals a game. Detroit is 26th in the league in power play success as they cash in on 17.2% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Red Wings are 30th in the league in penalty killing as they successfully get through 74.3% of their shorthanded situations on the year.…
Despite being 44 points ahead of Detroit (wow), the Panthers should not take this game lightly for two reasons:
1. It’s an afternoon game and the Cats typically struggle with these 2. Thomas Greiss seems to have Florida’s number and always plays them well. Detroit looks to be carrying a lot of goalies - so who knows who is starting - but if Greiss does, he could give the Cats a bit of a headache.
It looks like Knight gets the nod for Florida and Lindbohm will be in for Hagg. ____________________________
Looking forward to some afternoon holiday hockey…Go Panthers!
