The Anaheim Ducks opened the season this week with two games against the Vegas Golden Knights. Here’s the weekly recap.

DUCKS LOSE BOTH GAMES IN VEGAS

The Anaheim Ducks lost both of their games to Vegas this week, picking up one of a possible four points. Vegas took the first game 5-2, then tied the second game with under two minutes to go, before winning it seven seconds into overtime.

BEN HUTTON SIGNS WITH DUCKS

Anaheim signed defenseman Ben Hutton to a one-year deal this week, worth $950,000. Hutton spent last season with the Los Angeles Kings and had signed a professional tryout with the Ducks before the season.

As for our poll questions this week, here are some of the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out:

QUESTION: Do you think the Ducks will finish ahead of the Wild in the standings this season?

(Votes: 30)

No: 53%
Yes: 47%

I think this could be a close matchup. Neither team is a contender within the division, though both could compete for the final playoff spot.

QUESTION: Do you like the decision to start Jamie Drysdale in the AHL?

(Votes: 107)

Yes: 76%
No: 24%

This is the ideal situation for Drysdale, in my opinion. Normally, he wouldn’t be AHL eligible and would have to return to the OHL. This is a good next step for the defenseman but it won’t rush him to the highest level too quickly.

QUESTION: Do you think Trevor Zegras should have started the year in the NHL?

(Votes: 110)

Yes: 59%
No: 41%

There are arguments that can be made for both sides. Starting Zegras in the NHL could be rushing him, however, he sure looked ready to take the next step from what we saw of him in the World Juniors.

QUESTION: Do you think signing Ben Hutton was a good move for the Ducks?

(Votes: 54)

Yes: 78%
No: 22%

Based on the price and term, this is a good deal for the Ducks. They add more defensive depth and the move carries virtually no risk.
