The Anaheim Ducks began training camp this week, while five of six Ducks prospects at the World Juniors have advanced to the semifinals. Here’s the weekly recap:

GOALIES: Lukas Dostal, Olle Eriksson-Ek, John Gibson, Ryan Miller, Anthony Stolarz

WJC UPDATE

After the quarterfinals, five of six Ducks prospects remain at the World Juniors. Jamie Drysdale and Canada will face Russia in the semifinals, while Sam Colangelo Jackson LaCombe, Henry Thrun, Trevor Zegras, and Team USA will face Finland. Albin Sundsvik is the only Ducks prospect who’s team has been eliminated from the tournament, after Sweden lost to Finland in the quarterfinals.

Here are each player’s stats so far:

Trevor Zegras (USA): 6G, 9A (5GP)
Albin Sundsvik (SWE): 1G, 2A (5GP)
Jamie Drysdale (CAN): 0G, 2A (5GP)
Henry Thrun (USA): 0G, 1A (5GP)
Sam Colangelo (USA): 1G, 0A (5GP)
Jackson LaCombe (USA): 0G, 0A (4 GP)

As for our poll questions this week, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out:

QUESTION: Will Trevor Zegras spend the majority of the 2020-21 season in the NHL?

(Votes: 65)

Yes: 58%
No: 42%

I think Zegras could certainly be effective in the NHL, it’s just a matter of whether the Ducks feel it will be best for his development. After his showing at the World Juniors, it seems like he’s made his case for starting the year with the Ducks.

QUESTION: Where do you think Trevor Zegras will play long-term with the Ducks?

(Votes: 117)

First line: 77%
Second line: 21%
Third line: 2%
Fourth line: 1%

It’s telling that 98 per cent of readers voted that they think Zegras will be a top-six forward. In addition to that, the overwhelming majority feel that he’ll be a top-line forward for the Ducks. At this point, it would be pretty difficult to argue otherwise.
