The Los Angeles Kings are on the verge of their first postseason appearance since 2018, following four wins over their last eight days.

The Kings managed a win over the Columbus Blue Jackets last weekend, before defeating the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, then the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday, followed by one more win over the Ducks yesterday.

With the wins, the Kings now have just two regular season games remaining, sitting at 96 points. While the Vegas Golden Knights do have two games in hand, Los Angeles is now seven points ahead for the third spot in the Pacific Division. Essentially, the Golden Knights have to win all of their remaining games for the Kings to potentially have an issue, with the Kings also needing to lose both of their remaining matchups.

Given the Kings’ final games come against the Seattle Kraken and Vancouver Canucks, with only a single win needed to clinch a playoff spot or a regulation loss for the Golden Knights, things are looking good.

Vegas plays the San Jose Sharks tonight and while it does look like a favourable matchup for the Golden Knights, the Kings could clinch as early as today, if Vegas suffers a regulation loss.

Even aside from the clinching scenarios, the four straight wins is a huge way to build momentum going into the postseason. The Kings have held their opponents to just five goals over the last four games and could potentially make it a six in a row to close out the year, given their remaining competition.

The Kings’ next game will only come on Wednesday though so for now, we’ll wait on the results of the Golden Knights’ game.
