The Los Angeles Kings picked up a key road victory over the Chicago Blackhawks yesterday, winning 5-2.

The Kings came out really strong as usual, outshooting the Blackhawks 14-6 in the first period. Trevor Moore opened the scoring for the Kings, burying a great pass from Phillip Danault. Then only a few minutes later, Danault picked up a goal himself to make it 2-0, bouncing a puck in off Caleb Jones.

Los Angeles kept control in the second frame, holding the Blackhawks to just five shots. Taylor Raddysh did cut the lead to one for Chicago late in the frame, but Blake Lizotte finished off some nice passes only 33 seconds later, sending Los Angeles to the intermission with a two-goal lead once again.

Then early in the final frame, Jonathan Quick made some key saves to keep the Kings’ lead intact, just before Jordan Spence scored from the point to make it a 4-1 game. Patrick Kane did cut the lead down late in the period but Blake Lizotte added an empty net goal, leading to a 5-2 Kings win.

It was a huge win for the Kings, following a three-game losing skid that was a big hit to their position in the standings. The team also got Dustin Brown back, who hadn’t played in a month and registered two assists in the win.

Not only did the Kings win, the Vegas Golden Knights also lost to the Vancouver Canucks in overtime, extending the Kings’ lead for the third spot in the Pacific Division to three points.

The Kings will be right back in action tonight against the Colorado Avalanche in the second half of their back-to-back, with just seven games left to play in the regular season.
