Most underrated goaltender in the Eastern Conference? (Maple Leafs)

In this edition of the hotstove, we share our thoughts on the most underrated goaltender in the Eastern Conference.

Todd Cordell

Frederik Andersen.

He's rarely put in the same category as the league's biggest names but the reality is he deserves to be there.

Since the beginning of last season, Andersen ranks 7th in save percentage and 3rd in Quality Start% – behind only Braden Holtby and Sergei Bobrovsky – among 30 goaltenders to appear in 60 games or more.

Andersen sits 2nd in games played with 97 over that span, too, so it's not as if it's a small sample size. Toronto has worked him into the ground and he's still managed to give them consistently good goaltending. He doesn't get enough credit for the job he's done.

James Tanner

The most underrated goalie is Frederik Andersen. If you throw out his last two Octobers, he's been one of the best goalies over the last two seasons. His stats are strong and he plays in front of a team that allows way too many shots against and isn't strong defensively.

Despite playing in front of the Run and Gun Leafs, Andersen is among the league leaders in wins and shutouts. He's a great goalie who deserves to mentioned in the tier just below Price, Bobrovsky, and Holtby.
