So it only took about 36 hours for the Windy City Whining to begin. The paragon of virtue in the Chicago media, a guy who works for CBS by the name of Dan Bernstein is (between wails of agony) calling the Tampa Bay Lightning ticket policy “pathetic.…
Snicker… now that’s funny, especially from this guy…
Bernstein also calls an executive that “defends a business decision by insisting that he’s not sorry they made it, that’s a pretty good indication that he knows it’s wrong.…
Chuckle… now that’s even funnier. Apparently, (according to this guy) if you believe you made the right decision and are unapologetic about it… you are wrong. Ummm… ok… whatever you say there Dan and here we go again… another Chicago media type, trolling for clicks. Only Bernstein is so unoriginal, he has to troll waters that have already been fished out.
But I guess ole Dan is desperate for traffic to his column or listeners to his morning show there in Chicago… that whole sexist Twitter thing that he has been trying to extricate himself from since March is still an issue and now he’s trying to play man of the people? Propagating this whole entitlement mindset emanating from a fanbase that forgot there was a team there just ten years ago. Oh… but don’t use the “B… word, that will hurt their tender wittle feelings…
This has become typical and we are kinda used to it. Actually… a few other columnists did the same story back in April. What, do you media guys in Chicago just share the same column and pass it around to each other? The only thing missing from ole Dan's was the false narrative that Nashville somehow "needs" Chicago fans.
Oh… and there was one other thing missing in your column there Dan-o… the ticketing strategy worked! You needed a detective and a breathalyzer to find Chicago fans in Bridgestone Arena during the first round series.
For heaven’s sake, someone remind the Chicago media… you are an Original Six team that has won two Cups in the past few seasons… act like you’ve been there before. You didn’t see this kind of kvetching from the New York media… they reported the story (without snarky comments) and went on with life, so did Montreal, so did Detroit… other Original Six markets that were subjected to the same ticketing policy. They have all been there before, but Chicago? Nope… the media has to whine and cry about it…
Looks like Berstein and his ilk take that whole “Second City… thing waaaaaaaaaaay too seriously.

Random Notes
- We will be previewing the Stanley Cup Final and much more on tomorrow’s SlapShot Radio at a special time. We will get things going at 6pm on 94.9 Game 2.
- The Nashville All-Star Game logo was revealed over the weekend… first take? I like it… a lot. It is a solid display of Music City.
- Despite reports out of New Jersey that he was a leading candidate, Preds assistant coach Phil Housley was not hired by the Devils to be their head coach. New GM Ray Shero tapped Wilkes-Barre coach John Hynes instead.
- You gotta love his confidence, apparently Kevin Fiala, in his end of season meeting with David Poile and Peter Laviolette flatly stated that “I’m going to be playing for the Nashville Predators next season.…
- Poile’s comments at the Music City Sport Festival this past weekend indicate that the team will not exactly go crazy on July 1. In this writer’s opinion, there ain’t much out there that could help and this team is probably wise to look internally to shore up a few spots.
- Save the Date – Saturday June 20th… it’s a SlapShot Radio Field Trip! All the info you need is on a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/SlapShot-Radio/250363451666986">the SlapShot Radio Facebook page … come join us for a night of baseball and fun with your hockey family!
- Fascinating information coming out of Anaheim about a “strained… relationship between head coach Bruce Boudreau and Bob Murray coming from the almost always spot on Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
- Rumors are flying about a potential trade between the Rangers and Blues… Rick Nash for TJ Oshie. That could be an interesting shake up for both teams.
- Interesting nugget from the Stanley Cup Final, if Tampa beats Chicago, the Bolts will become the first team to win the cup by beating four O6 teams.
- Viewership was strong for Game Seven of the Hawks/Rangers series, peaking at 4.3 million viewers ranking it in the top ten most watched games on NBCSN.
