47 years ago, on March 7th, 1975, Guy Lafleur became the first Montreal Canadiens’ player to score 100 points in a season, a mark he would surpass 6 times with the Habs. Only 3 other players have made it to over 100 points in a season while wearing the Tricolore: Steve Shutt, Pete Mahovlich (twice) and Mats Naslund. Both Pierre Turgeon and Vincent Damphousse came close in the 90’s when they had 96 and 97 points respectively, but they couldn’t make it to the select club. This weekend, the Canadiens shared a statement from the Lafleur family who wanted to thank the fans for their empathy and outpouring of love while Lafleur carries on battling with cancer. Let’s hope this living legend pulls through, the world in its current state could use a feel-good story.

Speaking of living legends, Carey Price was once more on the ice in Brossard today making so light exercises. I do not think this means we’ll see him back in the line-up this season to be honest, but the fact that he’s been on the ice for a few days in a row might mean that the swelling in his knee is history which would definitely be a step in the right direction. Today, he was joined on the ice by Tyler Pitlick who got to Montreal last week after being acquired in the Toffoli trade and staying by his wife’s side during the final days of her pregnancy.

Meanwhile, it was revealed today that a pending UFA and former Hab wouldn’t be offered another contract by his current team, the New Jersey Devils. That’s right, the Devils’ GM has told P.K. Subban that he would be trying to deal him before the trade deadline. With such a cap hit though, I very much doubt there will be any takers. Of course, speculation on social media followed and people wondered if perhaps Subban could sign again with Montreal this Summer. Personally, I’d be shocked if that happened. The blueliner has struggled mightily in the last few seasons and his return could be a problem in the room, especially if Brendan Gallagher sticks around since he’s been very vocal about what he thinks of Subban.
As the Habs started practice, the team announced that Petry is now day to day with an upper body injury. Still practicing but with a no contact jersey.

Il y a 47 ans aujourd’hui, le 7 mars 1975, Guy Lafleur est devenu le premier joueur des Canadiens de Montréal a amassé 100 points dans une saison, une marque qu’il allait surpasser 6 fois avec les Habs. Seulement 3 autres joueurs du Tricolore ont réussi cet exploit : Steve Shutt, Pete Mahovlich (2 fois) et Mats Naslund. Tant Pierre Turgeon que Vincent Damphouse y sont presque arrivés pendant les années 90s en allant chercher 96 et 97 points respectivement, mais ils n’ont pas obtenu leur carte de membre de ce club sélect. Ce weekend, le CH a partagé une déclaration de la part de la famille Lafleur qui souhaitait remercier les fans pour leurs déclarations d’amour et de support pendant que celui-ci continue son combat contre le cancer. Espérons que cette légende vivante réussira à s’en sortir, considérant tout ce qui se passe dans le monde présentement, on aurait bien besoin de nouvelles réjouissantes.
Parlant de légendes vivantes, Carey Price était de nouveau sur la glace ce matin à Brossard à faire de petits exercices. Je ne crois pas que cela signifie qu’on le reverra en uniforme cette saison bien honnêtement, mais le fait qu’il soit sur la glace plusieurs joueurs de suite signifie peut-être qu’il s’est finalement débarrassé de l’enflure dans son genou et ça, ce serait définitivement un pas dans la bonne direction. Aujourd’hui, il était sur la glace en compagnie de Tyler Pitlick qui est arrivé à Montréal la semaine dernière après avoir été acquis en retour de Tyler Toffoli et avoir passé les derniers jours de la grossesse de sa femme à ses côtés avant de se rapporter.

Pendant ce temps, nous avons appris aujourd’hui qu’un joueur autonome en devenir et ancien Habs ne se verrait pas offrir un autre contrat par son équipe actuelle, les Devils du New Jersey. En effet, le DG des Devils a informé P.K. Subban qu’il tenterait de l’échanger d’ici à la date limite des transactions. Avec son impact sur la masse salariale cependant, je doute qu’il trouvera preneur. Sans surprise, il n’en fallait pas plus pour que des suggestions de signature avec le CH cet été apparaissent sur les médias sociaux. Personnellement, je serais choqué que cela se produise. Le défenseur a eu beaucoup de difficultés dans les dernières années et son retour pourrait causer des vagues dans le vestiaire, surtout si Brendan Gallagher reste, comme il a été plutôt vocal quant à ce qu’il pense de Subban.
Alors que les Habs commençaient a pratiquer, l’équipe a annoncé que Petry souffre d’une blessure au haut du corps, il pratique mais sans contact et sera reevalué au jour le jour.
