The newest team in the league is struggling this season but its still ahead the once glorious Canadiens in the standings by 3 points. The last and only time the 2 teams played, Seattle beat Montreal 5-1 in an early season meeting. Plenty of water has gone under the bridge since then and some things have changed. Martin St-Louis is now at the helm, his first line of Caufield, Suzuki and Anderson is firing on all cylinders, Arturri Lehkonen looks like a sharp shooter, Tyler Toffoli has gone and Geoff Molson has done some serious Spring cleaning upstairs. Yesterday at practice, the lines and pairings were as follows:

Allen, Drouin, Dvorak, Paquette, Perreault, Pezzetta and Edmundson all practiced wearing normal jerseys and Tyler Pitlick remains on injured reserve with an unspecified injury. When questioned about him, St-Louis said he had no idea when he could be in the line-up. As for Drouin, Dvorak and Edmundson, they had yet to receive medical clearance to play yesterday but Edmundson Is now cleared and will make his season debut tonight. The fact that Armia remains in the line-up while Michael Pezzetta sits lends credence the Darren Dreger’s information that the Habs are getting calls about number 40 and that they are showcasing him. Furthermore, putting Lehkonen on his line might be another way to try and make him shine.
Little side note about a former Hab here, apparently, the Hurricanes are closing in a on 8-year deal with Jesperi Kotkaniemi which would have an AVV of $4.5 million. That is quite the contract for a player that has yet to put up 40 points in a season, but if he develops well, it could end up being a steal eventually…that’s a big IF though. This year, he’s got 23 points in 54 games, on pace for 35 points in 82 games, which would be his best season beating his rookie year numbers but a single point. There’s no denying that the Canes are really all in on KK, even if they did overpay him grossly to pry him from the Canadiens’ clutches.
The team announced yesterday that Cole Caufield was the Molson Cup recipient for the month of February and that shouldn’t be a surprise for anybody. After all, he’s been red hot since St-Louis’ arrival. He’ll be presented with the Molson Cup tonight in front of a packed Bell Centre, expect the crowd to make him feel the love. The puck drops at 7:00 PM and it will be great to hear the Bell Centre rocking again.

La nouvelle équipe de la ligue en arrache cette saison mais elle est tout de même 3 points en avant des anciens glorieux que sont les Canadiens. La dernière et seule fois que les deux équipes ont croisé le fer, Seattle avait pris la mesure de Montréal par la marque de 5-1 en octobre. Beaucoup d’eau a coulé sous les ponts depuis et bien des choses ont changés. Martin St-Louis pilote maintenant le CH, son premier trio formé de Caufield-Suzuki-Anderson fait flèche de tout bois, Arturri Lehkonen a l’air d’un tireur d’élite, Tyler Toffoli est parti et Geoff Molson a fait tout un ménage dans l’état-major.

Allen, Drouin, Dvorak, Paquette, Perreault, Pezzetta et Edmundson pratiquaient tous avec des chandails de couleur régulière et Tyler Pitlick demeure quant à lui sur la liste des blessés avec une blessure non dévoilée. Quand St-Louis a été intérogé à son sujet, il a dit n’avoir aucune idée d’une date de retour possible. Quant à Drouin, Dvorak et Edmundson, ils n’avaient toujours pas reçu le feu vert médical pour un retour au jeu hier, mais Edmundson l’est maintenant et jouera ce soir son premier match de la saison. Le fait qu’Armia demeure dans l’alignement alors que Michael Pezzetta ronge son frein dans les gradins mène à penser que Darren Dreger a raison quand il dit que le CH reçoit des appels à propos du numéro 40. De plus, mettre Lehkonen sur son trio est peut-être une façon de plus de le faire bien paraître.
Petite note sur un ancien Canadien ici, il semblerait que les Hurricanes soient près de signer Jesperi Kotkaniemi a un contrat de 8 qui aurait un impact de 4.5 millions par an sur la masse salariale. C’est tout un contrat pour un joueur qui n’a encore jamais atteint la marque des 40 points dans une saison. Cependant, s’il se développe bien, ça pourrait éventuellement être un vol, mais pour l’instant, ça demeure un gros SI. Cette année, il compte 23 points en 54 matchs, un rythme qui lui donnerait 35 points en 82 matchs, ce qui serait sa meilleure saison en carrière avec un point de plus que lors de son année recrue. Il n’y a pas à dire, Waddell persiste et signe dans ce dossier même s’il a dà» le payer très grassement pour l’extraire des griffes du CH.
L'équipe a annoncé hier que Cole Caufield était le récipiendaire de la Coupe Molson pour le mois de février et ça ne devrait pas être une surprise pour personne. Après tout, il est tout feux, tout flame depuis l’arrivée de St-Louis. La Coupe Molson lui sera présenté ce soir devant un Centre Bell rempli à pleine capacité, attendez-vous à ce que la foule lui serve toute une ovation. La mise en jeu aura lieu à 19:00 et ce sera fantastique d’entendre un Centre Bell rempli de vie à nouveau.
