The San Jose Sharks snapped their seven-game losing streak last night, defeating the New York Islanders in a shootout.

The Sharks started to get outplayed in the second period though, allowing 17 shots against in the frame. Zach Parise managed to tie the game later in the frame and while Logan Couture did put the Sharks back up on a power play a little later, James Reimer was somehow beat on a point shot from Adam Pelech, making it 3-3 heading into the second intermission.

San Jose couldn’t get anything going in the third frame, being outshot 13-4 in the period. They managed to escape, however, and survived overtime as well, sending the game to a shootout.

In the shootout, Logan Couture and James Reimer were the heroes, as Couture scored as the second shooter while Reimer went 3-for-3 against New York’s shooters, securing a Sharks win.

This was definitely far from a great game for San Jose, given they allowed nearly 50 shots and were completely outplayed through the back half of the game. James Reimer came up big though and as a result, they got the two points.

It’s worth noting that Logan Couture also continued his stretch of solid play, with five goals over his last six games, not to mention the shootout winner.

With the win the Sharks finally manage to snap their losing skid, though it’s likely more of a moral victory looking at the standings at this point.

San Jose’s next game comes tomorrow against the Boston Bruins.
