Anaheim managed to tie the game seven minutes into the second period and while Logan Couture picked up his second goal of the game to get the Sharks their lead back, the Ducks responded once more, as Rickard Rakell scored shortly after a faceoff. Then after neither the third period or overtime solved anything, the game went to a shootout.
After Trevor Zegras opened the shootout with a goal, neither Logan Couture or Tomas Hertl was able to even it up and Rickard Rakell beat James Reimer as the fifth shooter, giving the Ducks the extra point.
Despite the point they picked up, the Sharks continue to slide in the West, with last night’s loss marking their seventh in a row.
The game was also Ryan Dzingel’s first with the Sharks, since being claimed off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was held off the board but did manage two shots and played nearly 17 minutes.
On another (more positive?) note, if Noah Gregor could bury some of his chances, his numbers could be way higher this year. He’s able to use his speed to create some great opportunities but can never seem to capitalize. He’s someone we could see break out over the next year or two.
San Jose’s next game comes tomorrow against the New York Islanders.
