Midweek Random Offseason Notes
- The Hockey News has their annual preview out and has the Predators finishing second in the Central, right behind the Dallas Stars. Their predictions have the Preds losing in the conference finals to the Oilers. Last season they pcked the Preds second in the division as well.
- Lots of chatter in Pred Nation about going after free agent Jaromir Jagr. It is an interesting notion, however I worry that Jagr may not have the wheels left in order to be effective with this team. While he still is an effective player, his speed is not what it once was.
- Nashville has an estimated $5.4 million in cap space for 17/18. They have room to make a move, but my bet is that GM David Poile is done dealing for the offseason… it also leaves him a lot of options come trade deadline.
- The submission window is open for Smashvillians to submit their entries to be the Nashville Predators next anthem singer. If you are interested, make sure you go to the Predators website and fill out the application.
- The new road jerseys got a better initial reaction than the new home jerseys, I have to say… they both look a lot better in person than they do in photos.
- The Preds are hosting a new event, a Fishing Tournament on Old Hickory Lake. The event starts Friday night with a dinner, then the competition begins on Saturday morning at 6am. More information is available on the Preds website.
- Today is HHOFer Ken Dryden’s 70th birthday. Happy birthday to one of the best to go between the pipes.
- It came out yesterday that minor leaguers under contract to an NHL team will not be permitted to participate in the Olympics. This Olympic tournament will be interesting…
