The Anaheim Ducks traded forward Rickard Rakell to the Pittsburgh Penguins today, in exchange for a 2022 second-round pick, forwards Zach Aston-Reese and Dominik Simon, as well as prospect Calle Clang.
TRADE: We have acquired forward Zach Aston-Reese, forward Dominik Simon, goalie prospect Calle Clang and a 2022 second-round pick from Pittsburgh in exchange for Rickard Rakell. https://t.co/zh3nQ8IY8N

Aston-Reese is 27 years old and has scored two goals and 11 points in 52 games. He’s set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, with his current contract being worth $1.73 million.
Simon is also 27 years old and scored three goals and nine points in 55 games with Pittsburgh this season. He too will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason and his current deal is worth $750,000.
Clang is a 19-year-old goalie who the Penguins selected in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft. This season, he’s posted a .915 save percentage in 17 games, playing in Sweden’s highest professional league.
I’ll go more in-depth on all the trades over the next little while but for the Rakell trade, I think this is a fair deal for both sides. Rakell’s production has dropped a bit and he’s on an expiring contract, but the Ducks still got back a second-round pick, a prospect selected in the third round and two depth forwards, with Aston-Reese specifically being a solid defensive forward.
DUCKS ACQUIRE EVGENII DADONOV
The Ducks have also acquired forward Evgenii Dadonov and a second-round pick from the Vegas Golden Knights, in exchange for defenseman John Moore and the contract of Ryan Kesler.
TRADE: We have acquired right wing Evgenii Dadonov and a second-round selection in the 2023 or 2024 NHL Draft (year is based on conditions) from Vegas for defenseman John Moore and the contract of Ryan Kesler.https://t.co/F2jjSQ1a7f

The second round pick will come in either 2023 or 2024 and is dependent on the results of the conditions in the Jack Eichel trade from earlier in the season.
