The Anaheim Ducks came away with an overtime win against the San Jose Sharks last night, winning 3-2 in overtime.

The Ducks started a bit slow, getting outplayed through the first half of the frame, and Logan Couture scored on a rush about eight minutes into the game to put San Jose ahead. Anaheim did bounce back a bit in the back half and had some power play chances, but remained down after 20 minutes.

Anaheim did manage to tie the game early in the second period, with a rebound off Max Comtois’ shot bouncing in off Adam Henrique only 1:41 into the frame. However, San Jose responded only about a minute later, as a point shot took a wild bounce in off Kevin Shattenkirk and in. The Ducks had a good frame overall though and managed to tie the game with only 20 seconds to go in the period, as Sonny Milano put a rebound past Zach Sawchenko.

The Ducks controlled the play through the third period as well, outshooting San Jose 13-6. While it looked like Jacob Middleton put the Sharks ahead, the goal was called off due to an offside, and despite some chances for the Ducks, it remained 2-2 at the end of regulation.

In overtime though, Rickard Rakell won it for the Ducks just 14 seconds in, taking a pass from Troy Terry and deking out Sawchenko to score.

This was a solid game overall for the Ducks, outshooting the Sharks 36-22. They were clearly the better team through the back 40 minutes and kept a lot of the play in San Jose’s end.

That said, the power play was rough. They went 0-for-5 with few quality shots and they gave up several odd-man rushes while up a man.

It also ended up being a relatively disappointing homestand, with the Ducks winning just three of six games, not capitalizing on what was a pretty good opportunity to pick up some points.

Anaheim will be back in action tomorrow, when they take on the Chicago Blackhawks, kicking off a five-game road trip.
