“Life moves pretty fast,… Ferris Bueller suggested in the 1986 cult film classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. “If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.… Trevor Daley would most certainly attest to that. “It’s gone pretty quick,… Detroit Red Wings defenseman Daley, 35, said of his NHL career. “It’s amazing how fast it goes. I’m just trying to enjoy every one of them.… He’ll enjoy a milestone that few NHLers reach on Sunday. Daley will skate in his 1,000th NHL game as the Wings face the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena, in the city where he was born and raised. “I think it’s awesome that this fell on this game, in his hometown,… Wings coach Jeff Blashill told Detroitredwings.com. “A thousand games is a heck of an accomplishment.… That he gets to do it at home in front of friends and family is an unexpected treat for Daley, who never tires of skating out on the ice against the Leafs, the team he grew up watching. “Absolutely,… Daley said. “All the time. It never gets old.… Daley played his first game on Oct. 25, 2003 for the Dallas Stars in a 3-2 win at Columbus. He was assessed an interference penalty, was plus-one, put four shots on goal and skated 12:36 of ice time. Emphasizing how rapidly time has passed, not one of his teammates from that game is still an active NHLer, and Daley has in fact been a teammate of the son of one of those first-game teammates, playing alongside Pierre Turgeon’s offspring Dominic with the Red Wings. Daley is the only player still active in the NHL left from the game. He joined the Wings as a free agent last season after winning successive Stanley Cups on the defense of the Pittsburgh Penguins. “He’s an unbelievable pro, he’s an unbelievable person,… Blashill said. “Competes likes crazy, comes to work every day, pays attention to detail, treats everybody with a great deal of respect. He’s just a great pro and a great person. “For us to be a part of it is great and I think it would be even better if we gave him a win.… Who Owns The Leafs? Nick Jensen, that’s who. The Red Wings defenseman has collected seven points in 10 career games against Toronto. That works out to 23.3 percent of all of his NHL points. That’s a stat that was new to me today,… said Jensen, who has three goals and four assists versus the Leafs. That’s also 50 percent of his NHL goals. “I don’t know if it’s the rivalry that brings it out. I do the same things I try every game. It just so happens that against Toronto, I do pretty well.
