The San Jose Sharks’ season came to an end on Friday, following three losses in four days in the final week of the season.

The Sharks lost their final home game of the year on Tuesday by a score of 5-2 to the Anaheim Ducks, before falling 5-4 in overtime to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday and being shut out 3-0 by the Seattle Kraken in their last game on Friday.

Especially considering their quality of competition, playing teams below them in the standings in two of their last three games, it’s a disappointing way to finish the season. The final loss may have came on the second half of a road back-to-back but still, being shut out by the Kraken is a tough way to go out. Even though the results of the games didn’t matter, it of course would’ve been nice to head into the offseason on a slightly more promising note.

It ends another pretty bleak year for the Sharks, who (other than a promising first few games) basically ended up playing down to their expectations. The Sharks finished 12th in the Western Conference with a 32-37-13 record and unfortunately, their positioning isn’t likely to change anytime soon.

I’ll go a bit more in-depth on the season in an upcoming article but for now, the three-game losing streak to end the year kicks off what should be an interesting offseason. With uncertainty around who will be San Jose's next general manager, the incoming GM’s vision for the team could really influence how large-scale the moves are this offseason and of course, which direction the team goes.

For now though, the Sharks are out of the playoffs for the third season in a row.
