The San Jose Sharks are finishing the season stronger with a more competitive stretch of games, following their recent 10-game losing skid.
After snapping their losing skid against the Columbus Blue Jackets last week, the Sharks had three games over four days from Thursday to Sunday, picking up two more wins. The Sharks fell 3-1 to the Blues on Thursday but rebounded for a 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, then came back to play spoiler with a shootout win against the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday.
The Sharks were held to only 21 shots in their loss to the Blues but then found a way to win with only 19 shots on Saturday against Chicago.
Then yesterday, the Sharks were the ultimate spoilers, clawing back from a late two-goal deficit and holding Vegas to a single point, which is a major blow to their playoff hopes. Down 4-2 with only about two minutes to go, Nick Bonino threw a shot on net through traffic which found its way in, cutting the lead to one. Then in the final second of regulation, Timo Meier got to a bounce off the end boards and beat the clock to tie it, sending the game to overtime. After Vegas couldn’t capitalize on a power play in overtime, Thomas Bordeleau continued to make an impact, scoring the only goal of the shootout to win it for the Sharks.
Following a long losing skid, it’s nice to see the Sharks stringing together some wins, especially that one in Vegas to end their long losing streak against the Golden Knights. Even if it doesn’t mean much, it’s a bit more of positive of a way to enter the offseason, coming off more competitive play.
The Sharks will play their final home game of the season tomorrow night against the Anaheim Ducks, before back-to-back road games against the Edmonton Oilers and Seattle Kraken on Thursday and Friday to close out the year.
