The Carolina Hurricanes have now won six of their last seven games, with a 2-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings last night. Here’s the game recap.

The teams traded some good chances early on, with Andrei Svechnikov getting a shot on a two-on-one, then Tyler Bertuzzi firing a slapshot from a good range but neither found the back of the net. Darren Helm then got a chance on a shorthanded breakaway but James Reimer followed him well and made the save.

The Hurricanes really started to take control of the game in the second period. Sebastian Aho opened the scoring on a weird goal, taking a shot that hit the boards behind Howard, then the puck popped back out front and when Howard wasn’t able to handle it, twisted around backwards in his net, Aho tapped in the loose puck.

Carolina continued with most of the offense in the third period and while Detroit pressed a bit and Reimer had to make some decent saves, this was a bit of a lopsided game, despite the score. On a powerplay in the third period with about a minute to go, the Red Wings lost control of the puck and Teuvo Teravainen iced it on an empty net.

The Hurricanes outshot Detroit 24-8 between the second and third periods and 36-19 overall. Reimer was good but wasn't forced to make a ton of excellent saves.

Carolina will be back in action Wednesday against the New York Rangers.
