Make it a four-game losing streak for the Carolina Hurricanes, who now have the fewest points of any Metropolitan Division team in their last 10 games. Here’s the recap from their 4-1 loss in Ottawa yesterday.

Sebastian Aho had the first chance of the game, getting a breakaway and trying to go five-hole but was stopped by Anders Nilsson. Ottawa opened the scoring, when Jonathan Davidsson took a shot on a 2-on-1 but James Reimer let out a huge rebound to Filip Chlapik who beat Reimer. Joel Edmundson got caught badly here but that’s a bad rebound and recovery by Reimer. Reimer did make up for it on a play a little later, as Brady Tkachuk fed a great pass to Anthony Duclair but Reimer made a great pad save while lying flat on the ice.

Ottawa made it 2-0 when Tyler Ennis’ shot deflected off of Vladislav Namestnikov in front, then increased the lead again with a goal that came four seconds… and yes, you heard that right…. after Namestnikov’s goal. Off the faceoff, Dougie Hamilton swiped wildly at the puck and missed, so Jean-Gabriel Pageau was able to go in down the wing and snap one by Reimer on the glove side. Warren Foegele just about put Carolina on the board in the dying seconds of the period but Nilsson stretched out to make an excellent pad save.

Andrei Svechnikov did get the Hurricanes their first goal in the second period from his spot on the power play but it ended up being the only one they got and Brady Tkachuk would end up scoring in the third period to make it 4-1 Ottawa.

It wasn’t Carolina’s best game but once again, they led in the shot category but managed just one goal on 39 shots. They’ve now scored just four goals on their last 120 shots.
