Los Angeles Kings forward Anze Kopitar was announced as the recipient of the Mark Messier Leadership Award yesterday.


The award winner is chosen by Mark Messier himself, with suggestions from fans and personnel around the league. It’s presented to the player who "exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice during the regular season.

Kopitar has been the Kings’ captain since 2016, when he replaced Dustin Brown. He had the following to say on receiving the award:
