Leafs Tank Tracker: The 65-Point Log Jam and a Nearly Flawless Thursday

Welcome back to the Tank Tracker. Let's get right down to business: if you were scoreboard watching last night, the hockey gods finally threw us a few massive lifelines.

The Leafs took care of their own business perfectly by getting routed at Madison Square Garden, ensuring they secured absolutely zero points. Meanwhile, the teams hovering right around our 65-point mark had a highly successful Thursday. We saw huge upsets over legitimate playoff contenders that compressed the standings exactly how we needed them to.

Yesterday’s Recap

Toronto Maple Leafs @ New York Rangers

• Result: Rangers win 6-2 (Regulation)

• Tank Impact: Flawless. The Leafs took a beating at MSG, securing zero points and remaining anchored at 65 points. The Rangers bumped up to 56 points, picking up a win and covering some much needed ground. 

Nashville Predators vs. Boston Bruins

• Result: Predators win 6-3

• Tank Impact: Massive Upset. Nashville took down the Bruins, securing two massive points to jump to 64 points. They are now breathing right down Toronto's neck, just one point behind us in the standings.

Los Angeles Kings vs. New York Islanders

• Result: Kings win 5-3

• Tank Impact: Perfect, the Kings grabbed two points to hit 64 points on the season. They are officially climbing the basement stairs and are now within one point of the Leafs. 

Winnipeg Jets vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

• Result: Jets win 4-1

• Tank Impact: Another shocker. Winnipeg takes down the heavyweight Lightning, grabbing two points to hit 60 points and with a hot goalie now enter the conversation as potential teams to pass the Leafs. 

Ottawa Senators vs. Calgary Flames

• Result: Senators win 4-1

• Tank Impact: Ottawa handles their business against Calgary to hit 69 points. That builds a comfortable four-point buffer ahead of Toronto, pushing them further away from any tie-breaker nightmares.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Florida Panthers

• Result: Blue Jackets win 4-2

• Tank Impact: Missed Opportunity. Florida (63P) had a chance to tie Toronto at 65 points with a win but dropped this one in regulation. They remain trailing us by two.

Tonight’s Tank Rankings: The Post Deadline Dash

With Toronto idle tonight, it's all about scoreboard watching. Here is your official tank guide for tonight's action:

St. Louis Blues (53P) @ San Jose Sharks (64P) 

• Ideal Result: Sharks win in overtime/shootout.

• Tank Impact: This is the most important game of the night for the tank. San Jose sits at 64 points. A win over the basement-dwelling Blues pushes them to 66 points, successfully leapfrogging the Leafs and increasing our Draft Lottery odds. 

Florida Panthers (63P) @ Detroit Red Wings (77P) 

• Ideal Result: Panthers win in regulation.

• Tank Impact: Florida blew their chance to tie us last night. A win tonight against Detroit finally pushes them to 65 points, creating that highly desired logjam in the Atlantic Division basement.

Carolina Hurricanes (84P) @ Edmonton Oilers (68P)

• Ideal Result: Oilers win in regulation.

• Tank Impact: Edmonton is sitting at 68 points, just three points ahead of the Leafs. An upset win over the powerhouse Hurricanes pushes them to 70, right on the edge of exiting our 6-point radius entirely.

Vancouver Canucks (43)) @ Chicago Blackhawks (56P) 

• Ideal Result: Blackhawks win in any form.

• Tank Impact: It’s unlikely the Canucks will climb out of the league basement entirely, so a Blackhawks victory would bring them within seven points of Toronto, and realistically put them one short winning streak away from being in the conversation to climb in the standings.
