The Dallas Stars have added some massive size to their blue line for the stretch run, officially acquiring 6-foot-8 defenseman Tyler Myers from the Vancouver Canucks.

NHL Insider Darren Dreger was the first to report the deal, noting that the full return heading back to Vancouver is still being finalized.

The Deal

To Dallas:

  • Tyler Myers (RD) (50% Retained)

To Vancouver:

  • 2027 2nd Round Pick

  • 2029 4th Round Pick

Analysis: Dallas

With Tyler Seguin officially landing on season-ending LTIR, GM Jim Nill suddenly had the financial flexibility to make a significant blue-line addition. In Myers, the Stars get a towering, veteran right-shot defender who can eat heavy minutes, clear the crease, and kill penalties. Because Myers is also under contract for next season at a very reasonable $3.0M cap hit, this solidifies the right side of the Stars' defense not just for this playoff run, but for the 2026-27 campaign as well.

Analysis: Vancouver

The writing was on the wall in Vancouver. Myers had been a healthy scratch for "roster management" purposes over the last few games, signaling that GM Patrik Allvin was working the phones. The biggest hurdle here was Myers' full No-Movement Clause, meaning he explicitly waived it to chase a Stanley Cup in Dallas. Moving his $3.0M cap hit off the books gives the Canucks crucial financial flexibility to either make another move before the deadline or create breathing room for the offseason.

Cap Implications

  • Tyler Myers: $1.5M AAV (Signed through 2026-27)

  • Term Remaining: 1 Year (After this season)
