Simon Edvinsson has had a bit of a rollercoaster of a week. The 6'6" defenseman scored in the Red Wings win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, potting his sixth of the season. The young swede also got some good news when he was named as someone to watch to potentially be called up as a replacement for an injury-ravaged Olympic Swedish blueline.

However, Edvinsson suffered an injury of his own against the Maple Leafs, with Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan revealing postgame Thursday night that he had been questionable leaving Scotiabank Arena. Said McLellan,

"We thought we might be able to get him through another game, but having today off, tomorrow off, will certainly help... We'll have to get him looked at but he's walking around and feeling OK."

Edvinsson has 17 points on the season as he's assumed a full time role opposite Mo Seider on the top pairing. While his linemate has been assembling a Norris caliber season, Edvinsson has been taking on the most minutes in his young career and is looking like a draft steal, even if he was picked in the top 10 of the first round.

The towering defenseman has been playing nearly 25 minutes a night in just his second full season in the NHL and has a combination of size and chippiness he's used to get on opponents' nerves by playing hard, defensive hockey, which has also led to 54 PIM.

That doesn't stop him from putting in some offense though, as he's also got 17 points in 48 games this year. Hopefully this minor injury doesn't get in the way of the big swede's technical sophomore season. If he does stay off the Olympic roster, the long break should help him recover from whatever nagging injury is effecting him.
