Over the weekend, the Habs looked like the team which started the season as they resumed their tenacious forechecking and strong defensive play. I really liked what I saw from each line and Dobeš seems to have rediscovered his confidence. 39 seconds of poor hockey resulted in a loss to St-Louis yesterday night, but I find overall Montreal was the superior team overall, and Dobeš can’t be faulted on any of the goals.
Alex Texier
He’s getting several chances and generating a lot of offence for his teammates. The Demidov-Kapanen-Texier line was one of the most dangerous all night. They have shown a lot of chemistry and I hope Texier can start being rewarded for his strong offensive play. Also, his shootout winner was a thing of beauty.
Nick Suzuki
I love how he plays, and he reminds me of Sidney Crosby in the sense that he always makes the right, intelligent play. He’s so good with the puck and rarely makes an egregious giveaway. He should really be a lock for team Canada.
Jared Davidson
He’s making the most of his opportunity and is noticeable often when he’s on the ice. I find he’s generating a decent amount of scoring chances playing limited minutes and he was rewarded with his first NHL point last night. He could also have a couple of goals over the eight games he’s played had it not been for some amazing goaltending by the opposition. He looks more comfortable out there than Beck or Roy looked when they got into some games so good for him!
Cole Caufield
He is red hot right now and riding an eleven game point streak. He has 16 goals on the season and he could have had 2 or 3 more goals last night. He’s really developing into one of the elite scorers in the league and, like Suzuki, should be a lock for team USA.
The Habs deserved a better fate against St-Louis and here's hoping they continue playing the way they are as if they do, Montreal will win more games than they lose. Montreal’s next game comes Tuesday against a very strong Tampa Bay Lightning team. Hopefully, Montembeault is feeling better from his illness on Sunday.
