TSN’s Bob McKenzie is reporting that Tampa is a potential landing spot for Vancouver’s Jason Garrison. It is believed that the Canucks are interested in trading the 29-year-old defenseman.
Garrison, who has four years left on a deal that carries a $4.6-million cap hit, signed as a free agent with the Canucks in the summer of 2012.
Legit chance VAN deals defenceman Jason Garrison although he has full NTC. It's believed he would reluctantly waive depending on location.
— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) June 27, 2014Hearing TB and MTL as potential landing spots for Garrison. TB was interested in Garrison when he was UFA and chose VAN.
— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) June 27, 2014Further, outside his one year in Vancouver under John Tortorella, Garrison has been a consistently good possession player. That's something the Bolts desperately need on a blue line that was dragged down by the Radko Gudas/Matt Carle pairing all year last year. Acquiring a proven possession driver would allow Jon Cooper and Rick Bowness more flexibility with their pairings.
Given the source, this is certainly a rumor to keep your eye on as draft day progresses. I'll update my blog should more news break.
As always, thanks for reading.
