Murray the frontrunner for new GM? (Buffalo)

It's sounding more and more that Tim Murray could be the next GM for Buffalo. He's been working with Ottawa since 2007, but could be ready to take on a bigger role...but for the Sabres.

Murray has helped draft some solid players for the Sens, but also had a couple of issues, such as the Alfredsson situation. However, he did help build the Binghamton Senators into Calder Trophy winners a couple of years ago.

There are reports early this afternoon that Murray is the front runner for the position, but no one can confirm it just yet.

In case you're wondering, if Murray did get the job and was Ottawa was willing to let him take it, the Senators would not get any compensation:

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman abolished the practice of compensation for teams losing front-office personnel in the wake of Peter Chiarelli’s controversial promotion from the assistant general manager of the Senators to GM in Boston in the spring of 2006. The two teams quarreled over the proper compensation.

Starting with the 2006-07 season, there was no longer any compensation. If you allowed someone to accept a promotion elsewhere, so be it; you got nothing in return. -Pierre LeBrun

While we await any confirmation on this, what are your thoughts on Murray?

The Bovada odds are out for the chances of each team winning the Stanley Cup. The Sabres are dead last at 1000-1. Calgary and Edmonton are above them at 500-1. Of course, Chicago listed at best odds at 11-2, while Pittsburgh and St. Louis are at 13-2.

Tyler Myers earned a 3 game suspension for his hit on Zubrus. It's pretty much exactly what I thought he would get.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and based on his average annual salary, Myers will forfeit $84,615.39. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rasmus Ristolainen won it in overtime against Sweden. It was nice to see him play like that and hopefully that transfers over to the Sabres. Prospects Nikita Zadorov and Rasmus Ristolainen were named the best defensemen at the world juniors.

He's likely going to be suspended for a good amount of time. Here's the hit:

He deserves the suspension, though. Even with the height difference, you can't hit the guy in the head like that. Accidental, but it doesn't matter.

As always, thank you for reading!
