Rosters are set, preseason is finally over and everyone has their jersey primed and ready for their team’s opening night! Well, that’s for your average fan…I have my jersey’s laid out for the first two games, my lucky socks, and of course my new hat I purchased yesterday. Yeah, I may have issues, but that’s ok; I bet some of you are in the same boat.
My fantasy drafts are complete after tonight, and I have had my roster set for the HBSL (HockeyBuzz SuperLeague) for a week now. When game one is underway and the pregame show is over and the music starts to begin the game with the introduction I can guarantee you I will have goose bumps. Electricity will flow through my body like it did at Christmas as a kid. This is what it’s all about; cheering for your team, getting amped up for puck drop!
While the first games getunderway on Wednesday October 8th, I suggest you get your team registered for the HBSL. You literally have until the first game to get your team name and picks submitted, don’t be late.
In case you haven’t heard about the HBSL, it’s a very fun fantasy pool setup through Hockeybuzz. Click the link on the main page (the banner on the top) or click the link below:

You have 69 million in cap, and you must fill out a full team with the allotted money. While picking your players, the total remaining salary will be shown at the top right of your screen. A nice variety of young players with cheaper salaries and of course some of your favorite players who produce consistently throughout the season is a good method to follow. Be sure to look for which players play three games in a week, because they have a good chance at producing more than a player of the same value who plays two weeks.
Goalies on the other hand, likely only play two games a week and their backup will get a game. So if you see a goalie playing three times that week and that’s the only reason you pick him over another goalie…Keep that in mind, he’s likely only going to play 2 games. My logic is; there is no need to burn your goalie out first week with too many shots/action and he pulls a groin and is done for a month or more. Think like a General Manager, act like one in the pool!
Again, make sure those rosters are submitted before the first game, that is very important if you want to participate in the HBSL.
Take a look at the rules and of course the prizes. Also note that there is a different prize pool for the Season Ticket Holders. Better prizes, but nevertheless being able to chirp and gloat your Hockeybuzz friends is always part of the fun!
Best of luck to everyone participating in the HBSL!
It won’t be posted again – but perhaps this will give some ideas for any HBSL rookies:
Left wing: James van Riemsdyk – 4.25 Mats Zuccarello – 3.5 Max Pacioretty – 4.5 Brandon Saad – 764k
Center: Anze Kopitar – 6.8 Jeff Carter – 5.27 Nathan MacKinnon – 925k Patrice Bergeron – 6.5
Right wing: Blake Wheeler – 5.6 Wayne Simmonds – 3.975 (maybe missing first game) Justin Williams – 3.65 Valeri Nichushkin – 925k
Defense: Jacob Trouba – 895k Ryan McDonagh – 4.7 Jake Muzzin – 1.0 Mark Giordano – 4.02 TJ Brodie – 2.125 Dougie Hamilton – 895k
Goaltenders: Ben Bishop – 2.3 Ryan Miller – 6
Three of those players play two games in a week, and the rest of them play three games.
Both goalies play twice, but vs teams I feel that are weaker.
Thanks for reading and I hope you have taken the time to sign up for the HBSL!
