Trade Chips or Potato Chips? (Blackhawks)

A long summer that started with Hawk GM Stan Bowman's now notorious turn eating potato chips at the NHL Draft just got a little longer.

Got a long email from a source last night, touching on a number of subjects—but unfortunately for nervous Hawk fans, nothing too terribly imminent.

Apparently, there is one "domino" that needs to fall—a trade—that will precipitate a series of events, like formally announcing new deals for Johnny Oduya and Marcus Kruger. And a couple of smaller trades.

I did not hear this, but we can all theorize that trade is Patrick Sharp. But then again, I am also hearing that the Hawks are exploring numerous trade options. Is the Domino now Corey Crawford? The Hawks, I think, want to leave everyone, including other teams, guessing.

There's some rumor scuttlebutt out there that Brent Seabrook is being dangled to Edmonton. My information is that Edmonton and other teams have called asking about Seabrook and/or Andrew Shaw, and that's about as far as anything is going for Seabrook, at least right now. We may revisit this topic in a number of months depending on factors. But until then? Ummm, no. I don't see it unless there's a lot more to the story.

However, I'm not sure the Hawks mind stuff like this getting out as it adds to a narrative that they are in "no hurry" to deal Sharp and other players—whether that's true or not.

On Oduya and Kruger, what I heard—what I heard—is that both are relatively comfortable waiting on finalizing deals that I also heard are quite favorable to the Hawks' cap situation.

If that's the case—and as long as that's the case—then no, the Hawks don't need to be in too much of a hurry. Let's face it, the more of panic the Hawks are perceived to be in, the worse the offers they'll get in trade.

That's what I have for now.
