Shock Of The New Jerseys Wearing Off [PHOTO] (Vinnie Viola)

After the June unveiling of the new Panthers logo and jersey, fan reaction was predictably mixed.

Those unwilling to accept change hated it.

Those knowing the franchise hasn't achieved anything in it's existence was fine with the facelift that brought a cleaner, militaristic look to the organization.

Owner Vinnie Viola is a military man. A West Point man. And in his own vision and right as the owner decided to make a drastic change to the look and identity of the Florida Panthers.

Many other teams have rebranded themselves over the years. Because humans have a needless aversion to change, such moves are usually met with sharp criticism from many.

Is it warranted? Often not.

It is a game, after all. Personally I don't care if the Panthers are wearing pink lingerie for the entire season as long as they win a Cup.

People will gripe about the most ridiculous things, and some, not all, of the reaction to the Panthers releasing of their new look was the type of knee jerk reaction that is to be expected after practically the same look for 23 years.

The new look helps the Panthers in many ways. Not only is it cleaner, but it is MUCH easier to reproduce. The old logo was far and away the most complicated logo in the league from a merchandise perspective. Hopefully the simpler colors and design will provide more merchandise options for the growing, strong Florida fan base.

Of the fans I've spoken with since the release, many have changed their tune now that the reality has set in. Perhaps they are also thinking what does it matter what they are wearing as long as the Cup is in South Florida.

All in all the new digs are sharp, and soon enough the old jersey will be a fond memory that is symbolic of where this organization has come from but not where we are as a perennial contender. (an alternative jersey featuring the old logo will be added to the wardrobe for the 2017-2018 season)

With the Panthers on the brink of taking that next step towards the ultimate goal, would it be bitter sweet for those most upset about the new look of the team? Possibly. Would hoisting the Cup in the new jerseys upset the tradionalist? Likely. But after all the pain this team and fan base has been through does it really matter? No.

This change is innovative and a message to everyone within the organization that the old reputation and mantra is no longer acceptable. For those with the eye on the prize, nothing sounds better.
