Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk announced today that an "Honoring Committee" committee has voted to retire Daniel Alfredsson's #11.
The ceremony will happen on December 29th when the Senators host the Red Wings.
Alfredsson becomes the first member of this incarnation of the Senators to have his number retired, and is a worthy recipient of the honor.
The Senators will also host a gala in Alfredsson's honor the night before the ceremony at the Museum of history.
It was only a matter of time, and other than a minor speed bump where the player was at odds with the team and resulted in his one-year sabbatical to Detroit, Alfredsson was a face of the franchise and really was the face of the City as well.
