The Pittsburgh Penguins are back in action against the Dallas Stars this evening. The last time these two teams met the Stars scored two late goals to steal the game away. Tyler Seguin scored the go-ahead power play goal with 2.9 seconds left in the game and Dallas won 3-2.
Since coming back from injury Tyler Seguin has three goals in five games.
Even in Seguin’s absence Jamie Benn was able to produce. He had 11 points in the ten games that Seguin missed.
The two players together make for a formidable combination:
The Penguins should have an easier time beating the goaltender tonight. The Devils had the fabulous Cory Schneider shutting the door despite being heavily outplayed. The Stars don’t have that luxury. They are currently the 29th ranked team in EVSV% at .907.
Winning the possession battle will be more difficult though. In the past twenty games Dallas has a Score-Adjsuted Fenwick of 53.7% good for seventh overall. The Penguins have a sparkling 55.8% in their last twenty games, second only to LA’s 56.7%. This is a fun matchup that may come down to the goaltending. Advantage Pittsburgh so far this year.
With Evgeni Malkin not joining the Penguins for the Stars and Coyotes game it is probable that Chris Kunitz joins back up with Sidney Crosby and David Perron. This is a good idea.
Combine the three of those players together and they totally control play at even strength
Kunitz-Crosby-Perron Winnik-Spaling-Bennett Comeau-Sutter-Downie Ebbett-Lapierre-Adams
I would give those combinations a whirl.

There are some really great trios out there but I don’t think any one of them can say they are definitively better than the Crosby, Malkin, and Letang trio.
I love the idea of three on three hockey. I love when the league’s best players have time and space to show off their skill. This is a great idea and it should be fun to watch. Three on three hockey will also decrease the probability of games being decided in a shootout. Here are the results so far from the AHL since they added three on three to their OT setup:
