Post Battle #76 vs Washington Capitals (Blue Jackets)

Final Score: Capitals 4 – Blue Jackets 1

Game Summary

Congratulations to the Washington Capitals. With the win tonight they officially clinched the Presidents Trophy. Caps fans of course only care about that other trophy, but this has been a tremendous season for them. Hopefully this is the year they can get it done in playoffs.

The game didn’t start out well for the Jackets. Boone Jenner took a David Savard shot to the face mid-way through the first period. Boone was able to skate off under his own power, though when he got to the bench it didn’t look good. His face was very bloody.

He missed the rest of the first period and returned half-way through the second, stitched up and wearing a full cage.

Through two periods the Jackets stayed right with the best team in the East. The shots were relatively even, 21-16 in favor of Washington, and the score was 1-1. In the third the Caps showed why they won the Presidents Trophy and took over the game. They suffocated the Jackets attackers, limiting them to just six shots and four scoring chances in the final frame. The Caps were finally able to break through the Jackets firing 18 shots and 12 scoring chances towards Sergei Bobrovsky. They scored three goals including an empty netter to pull away and take home the two points.

Bob played well. He stopped 35 of 38 shots for a .921 save percentage. Like many games this season the team in front of him is just not helping.

Cam Atkinson scored the Jackets lone goal. Rene Bourque made a great play to knock down the Capitals clearing attempt. Gregory Campbell shifted the puck to Cam who beat Braden Holtby.

That is Cam’s 27th goal of the season he has just six games left to get three more.
