Post Battle #22 vs San Jose Sharks (Blue Jackets)

Final Score: Sharks 5 – Blue Jackets 3

Game Summary

This was a tale of two games. The Sharks dominated the first period. The Jackets responded and took over the second, before sitting back and letting the Sharks take the third.

Here is a look at how the game went from shot attempt perspective. Stats are from all situations.

With Cody Goloubef and Fedor Tyutin out with injuries the Blue Jackets called up Andrew Bodnarchuk who made his season debut. Bodnarchuk was originally drafted by the Bruins, and played five games for the club in 2009-10. He spent the last three seasons with LA’s farm system before signing with the Jackets as a free agent in the off-season.

Bodnarchuk played on the third pair with Dalton Prout and saw 12:53 minutes of ice time. I liked what I saw of him. He is more of an offensive type of defencemen. He has some great wheels, I'm excited to see he what he can do with an if he gets an extended chance.

After the first period John Tortorella decided to shake up the lines by moving the centres around. He had Ryan Johansen playing between Kerby Rychel and Josh Anderson. They were effective immediately scoring the team’s first goal. That’s now points in back to back games for Rychel and Anderson. I have really been impressed with how Rychel is playing. He's been displaying his speed, playing the body, and has been setting up some great chances.

In that second period shakeup William Karlsson found himself playing alongside Brandon Saad and Boone Jenner. They combined to score a pretty tic-tac-toe goal:

Boone’s goal scoring ways continue. Below in the Stat of the Night, you can see his 11 goals hold some pretty great company.

Cam Atkinson scored the third goal for the Blue Jackets. He has quietly been heating up. That goal now gives him four points in the last five games.

Despite these new lines all clicking, Torts went back to the original lines with around eight minutes left in the third period. I don't know what to make of this or what is going to happen to the lines in the next game. It will be interesting to see what Torts does.

Finally, Ryan Murray celebrated a small milestone playing in his 100th career game. He becomes the 37th defencemen in team history to reach the mark.
