I was never anti-Phil Kessel. I was anti trading Ollie Maatta and Derrick Pouliot and also anti 8M cap hit. Pittsburgh couldn't afford to take on a big salary while losing one of their few playable ELC contracts. They avoided that.
Kasperi Kapanen and Scott Harrington is a low price to pay on the prospect front considering they got one of the league's premier goal scoring talents. Losing Nick Spaling is addition by subtraction. The salary retention is the most surprising part of the deal considering Pittsburgh didn't give Toronto all that much.
This trade is great. This is a home run.
