Pens End Sharks Improbable Run (Stanley Cup Final)

In the end the Pittsburgh Penguins were just too much for the San Jose Sharks.

The Penguins won the Stanley Cup with a 3-1 victory against the Sharks in Game 6 of the Final at SAP Center.

It is the fourth NHL championship for the Penguins since they entered the league.

I don't have much to say about game 6. Pittsburgh did what they had to and finished off a Sharks team that looked very much out of gas. By the third period, the outcome was all but decided. I think the Sharks had maybe two or three shots on net.

Speed kills and Pittsburgh was deadly.

It was tough to watch for sure.

San Jose certainly came a long way from the team we say in November. They found a way to pull together and go on this incredible run. It was a wild run, stopped only by a white hot team from Pittsburgh.

I'm proud of this team and you should be too. Since taking over as the Sharks blogger in December, I've been witness to some great hockey, some great individual accomplishments and the blossoming of some very promising careers. I got to enjoy it along with all of you and it was fun while it lasted.

Kudos to Martin Jones, Brent Burns, Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture, Joonas Donskoi, Joel Ward and all the other pieces of this special group.

This spring was truly a coming out party for Martin Jones. He was spectacular again in game 6. San Jose finally has their legit number 1 between the pipes.

Sidney Crosby won the Conn Smythe. A few more "W's" the other way and it was going to be Jones with the playoff MVP honors.

More to come....

Let's do this again next year, shall we?
