The Islanders placed P.A. Parenteau on waivers today. This comes as a bit of a surprise. Parenteau signed a one-year deal in the summer and was brought in to rekindled the magic that he and John Tavares had a few years ago.
The projected first line of Parenteau, Tavares, and Andrew Ladd only played together for one game, Sunday night's 4-0 loss in Washington. It appears that the organization feels that the are better options.
The move likely signals that both 2015 first-round picks Anthony Beauvillier and Mathew Barzal will make the team. It would be interesting to see if either begins their NHL career playing alongside Tavares against the New York Rangers.
The Parenteau move could also mean that we will see Joshua Ho-Sang this season. Ho-Sang had a real solid camp and has certainly matured since last year.
The Islanders will make their roster decisions tomorrow by 5pm after the waivers period has ended.
