After a lot of drama, frustration and a barrage of shots, Alex Ovechkin has finally broken Sergei Fedorov's record for most goals by a Russian-born NHL player with 484.
Ovechkin scored in tonights tough 3-2 loss against the Dallas Stars when, who else but, Nicklas Backstrom collected a pass from T.J. Oshie and spun around on top of the crease and fed an uncovered Ovechkin who slammed home his 9th goal of the season to tie the game at 2 a piece.
During the media timeout following the goal, the Verizon Center saluted Ovechkin, giving the superstar a standing ovation. The video-board also played a message from Sergei Fedorov, congratulating his former teammate and fellow Russian.
Fedorov scored his last NHL goal as a member of the Washington Capitals, and the lone assist on that goal was none other than the Great 8.
Now that that's out of the way, Ovechkin has another career milestone in his sights - goal number 500, which is something no Russian has ever done in the NHL.
At 484, Ovechkin needs only 16 more goals to join an elite group of NHL players and add to his Hall of Fame career.
