Another game, another loss.
The Blue Jackets continued on with their losing ways on Tuesday night when they came out flat against Arizona at home, and were dominated for the first half of the game en route to a 4-1 loss. This to a team that has 19 wins and a minus-51 goal differential in 51 games.
A few thoughts:
1) First and foremost, Columbus isn't a good team. Obviously they're still missing some key players, but they were close to healthy for a few weeks, and continued to string together plenty of losses. They're coming out flat, regularly getting outshot, and are struggling to score on a consistent basis. I think they need to bolster the defense in the off-season, get healthy up front, and I wouldn't be against a coaching change, though you hate to see people lose their jobs.
2) Remind me again why Jared Boll continues to dress and play six minutes. Is it for his physicality, because the Jackets have plenty of it already, and Boll was one of three players who didn't record a hit last night. I know the Jackets don't have any other forward options right now given they're carrying nine defensemen, but this was going on long before they got healthy on defense.
3) Jack Skille tied Cam Atkinson for the team-lead with four scoring chances last night. I'm not sure why he sits as a healthy scratch a fair bit, and plays limited minutes when in the lineup. He's a very good depth player.
4) Ryan Murray played a little over 18 minutes and was a positive possession player in last night's win. The Blue Jackets aren't going to make the playoffs - they won't come close - so seeing development from their young guys like Murray is about all anyone can hope for.
