Monday Musings (Blackhawks)

This may prove to be my most incoherent blog ever. And there are those who would say that's a low bar to clear.

In the playoffs, for what it's worth, I like the Blues over the Sharks and the Penguins over the Lightning.

We saw last Spring how good and how deep the Lightning are, and it's pretty remarkable that they've gotten this far with all the issues they dealt with this season. But the Pens are on fire and they have an "it's their year" feel around them.

I won't re-open the Trevor Daley can of worms here—that's gotten plenty of discussion on the last few message board threads.

As good as the Sharks have been, I just find it hard to see them taking down the Blues—a team that has finally come of age, with a deep, talented blue line and a hot goalie. And of course, Tarasenko.

Switching topics. I kind of had a little time this weekend to explore open source media a bit more. By the end of the weekend, I'd scrapped my AppleTV in favor of an Amazon FireStick, and installed a Kodi player on the spare computer in my office.

As far as the Beloved Blackhawks, there's not much new to report. Again, coming at that topic in a roundabout way, maybe the biggest news are the dual first place positions on both sides of town in professional baseball. This is a phenomenon that has not happened in a long time or very frequently over the years. How it impacts the Hawks is if either or both teams are still in the hunt for division crowns or involved in postseason action, it could detract significantly from the attention typically lavished on your Chicago Blackhawks.

With all that went on last summer and fall that night not have been a bad thing. And who knows, maybe a little less media pressure would be good for the Hawks as they assimilate a lot of young, new faces—or if they have some bad news this summer like a coveted RFA getting offer-sheeted.

All that said, no one loves to control the media and the media agenda like Hawk team president John McDonough. McDonough likes those big summer splashes of publicity to gin up ticket and merchandise sales.

It will be interesting then, in light of recent rumors about a mini-roster shakeup, what exactly transpires.

So that, for now, is all I have. Back with more soon.
