The Islanders have just announced that defenseman Johnny Boychuk will miss the next 4 to 6 weeks due to the "upper-body" injury sustained New Year's Eve in Buffalo. The Isles will have their work cut out for them as the have given up ten goals in the two games since losing Boychuk.
With this not being a season ending injury, I don't think we will see the Isles make a massive trade for a dman and they will try and band-aid their D-core until Boychuk returns from injury. However, I could see Islanders' General Manager Garth Snow look for a cheap rental IF this D flounders. One thing is for certain, their is zero chance Travis Hamonic will be traded in the wake of this news for the Isles.
