Johansson Re-signs with Caps (Washington Capitals)

Marcus Johansson has signed a one-year, $3.75M deal with the Capitals after heading to arbitration.

Johansson was seeking a one-year deal worth $4.75M after receiving a one-year, $3M offer from the Caps.

MoJo, as he is affectionately known in DC, is coming off a two-year, $2M contract and had a career year scoring 20 goals and 47 points.

The Caps are now sitting over the salary cap by around $35k (give or take), which will change once Justin Peters, Tayler Chorney, Zach Sill and Ryan Stanton head to Hershey.

Johansson has 186 points in 345 career games. He should grab the third line center spot and take over for loss of Eric Fehr. Johansson could also center Ovechkin and newly acquired T.J. Oshie as Nicklas Backstrom might miss the first few weeks of the season due to recovery from hip surgery.
