The NHL trade deadline is about three weeks away, and Jaromir Jagr is expected to be one of the bigger names moved.
While the Devils aren't shopping him just yet, they're 12 points out of a playoff spot, 3rd last in goals for, and their next two games are against powerhouse teams in Chicago and Nashville, so he should be made available very soon.
TSN's Darren Dreger reported on Insider Trading that, while Jagr hasn't asked for a trade just yet, he'd like to be moved to an Eastern Conference contender so he can get another crack at a Stanley Cup.
Dreger noted he isn't being shopped, and the Devils will re-evaluate where they are in a week, presumably when they're well out of the race.
I think it's possible Jagr comes back in the summer, and even if that's not the case I'm still on board with the Devils moving him. Not only should trading Jagr fetch a solid return, but it also makes the Devils worse, and will help ensure they lose more games as well as increase their chances of winning the lottery.
If I had to guess where Jagr ends up I'd guess Pittsburgh, but only time will tell.
It should be an interesting few weeks in New Jersey.
