Hotstove: Top-5 Wingers In The NHL? (Capitals)

Todd Cordell

1. Alex Ovechkin - In a league where it's getting increasingly hard to score Ovechkin continues to pile up the goals. He has three straight 50 goal seasons to his name.

2. Jamie Benn - Like Ovechkin, Benn can dominate a game physically and is a one-shot shooter. Has recorded at least 34 goals, 79 points in three straight seasons.

3. Patrick Kane - Nobody is better than Kane at navigating through traffic and dissecting opposing defense's. He doesn't bring anything to the table defensively but his ability to create offense more than makes up for it.

4. Vladimir Tarasenko - Tarasenko kind of his that Ovechkin-feel about him where he can take over a game on any given shift. I think the best is still to come and that he could find himself No. 1 on this list within the next couple years.

5. Taylor Hall - Over the last four seasons only three players have more 5 v 5 points and only two have scored more points/60 at 5 v 5. He was dumped on because he played for a garbage Edmonton team but he is a truly special player.

Honorable mentions: Johnny Gaudreau, Blake Wheeler, Nikita Kucherov.

Jason Lewis 1. Alex Ovechkin - He's a legendary scorer. Future hall of famer. Coming off his third consecutive 50 goal season.

2. Patrick Kane - Last season may have been his magnum opus in terms of hockey

3. Jamie Benn - Has been dominant the last two seasons. First 40+ goal season last year.

4. Jaromir Jagr - Maybe doesn't score as much as other wingers, but the fact that he is doing it at 44 years old is unreal. Absolutely unreal.

5. Vladimir Tarasenko - Only 20 years younger than Jagr. But no seriously he might be the next great sniper of the NHL. What a shot.

Honorable Mentions: Corey Perry (Need to see what he does after a down year), Blake Wheeler, Nikita Kucherov, Max Pacioretty

James Tanner 1. Ovechkin.

Still racks up the goals, but he's likely to decline soon and this is probably the last time he's #1.

2. Kucherov.

Maybe I'm overrating him after watching him so much in the Playoffs. If so, I don't care, he's fun as hell to watch.

3. Tarasenko

Much like Kucherov, he's just so fun to watch.

4. Benn

Hard to argue with all the scoring.

5. Hall

Still can't believe he was traded for like the 129th best defenseman in the NHL.

Honourable mention: Blake Wheeler. So underrated.
