Welcome to another edition of the Hockeybuzz hotstove.
In this one we'll be looking at the most underrated trade deadline addition (i.e. staying away from Keith Yandle, James Wisniewski, Antoine Vermette & co.).
Todd Cordell: Jeff Petry
This move didn't get a ton of talk, but I think the Montreal Canadiens did extremely well adding Petry.
The Canadiens were running P.K. Subban and Andrei Markov into the ground. Acquiring Petry will ease some of the pressure off those guys, and allow them to be saved a little bit leading up to the playoffs.
Montreal is one of the worst possession teams among those in the playoffs, and Petry will help in that regard as well. He's a guy who can eat big minutes, drive play up ice, and his high-end skating ability will fit in well for what is a very mobile Canadiens team.
Ryan Wilson: Kimmo Timonen This one has slid very much under the radar because Timonen hasn't played much this year but he is a top pairing defenseman that just went to one of the best teams in the league.
The Blackhawks may have lost Nick Leddy but if Timonen can play anywhere close to his ceiling he is going to be a steal for the Blackhawks. This was their more important deal, not Antoine Vermette.
