In this edition of the hotstove we share our biggest takeaways and/or what stands out to us most through the first month of the season.
Todd Cordell For me it's that the Boston Bruins are an offensive - not defensive - team this year.
They are generally a mid-tier offensive squad that relies on stout defense and goaltending to win games.
Well, that certainly hasn't been the case this year as they've allowed 36 goals in 11 games yet still have a winning record because they've scored 42 goals(!) and are averaging almost four a game.
With no true offensive stars on their roster and Tuukka Rask between the pipes I certainly never saw this coming but I guess that's why they play the games.
Tim Chiasson My biggest takeaway so far is how dumb it was for the Islanders to move to Brooklyn.
When you can't get as many people in the stands as the Florida Panthers then you've failed, miserably. I realize that the new arena was needed but heading to Barclays was clearly not the right road to travel own, at least not right now.
The Islanders are one of the top teams in the East yet they're 2nd last in the league for home attendance. That's pathetic. New York needs to figure out a better solution while they're a quality club or they will kill the future of that team.
